Educational and hands on activity to promote native bee habitat

Level: Beginner & beyond
Join us for a special workshop to learn about some of our native bees and how to build nesting houses for them. These native bees, like mason and leaf-cutter bees, are stem and hole-nesting bees and do not aggressively defend nesting areas. Attract these beneficial pollinators to your yard by providing them with the perfect nesting spots! The workshop will start with a brief Power Point presentation, followed by a session where we will construct our own Air Bee N’ Bees to take home.

Julie Bartolone is a naturalist, beekeeper, and the founder of Wild You, a local non-profit organization dedicated to environmental education and fostering a connection between people and nature. She has a deep passion for nature and sharing that joy with others. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Youngstown State University and minors in Chemistry and Business. Previously, Ms. Bartolone worked as a naturalist at Mill Creek MetroParks. Currently, her 501(c)(3) organization, Wild You, offers a variety of nature-based programs, including educational hikes, kayaking, monthly kids’ programs, special events, workshops, and outreach initiatives designed for local schools and scout groups. With 13 years of experience as an interpreter and naturalist and nine years of beekeeping experience, she also contributes to the Columbiana & Mahoning County Beekeepers Association as a board member, educator, and mentor for new beekeepers. She is currently mentoring Bending Oak Permaculture Farm with their honey bees.
